What is Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling?
RF Microneedling (RFMN) (sometimes called Fractional RF Microneedling) is a non-surgical procedure that uses state-of-the-art radiofrequency technology to deliver controlled heat energy deep into the layers of your skin.

This gentle heat stimulates collagen production and triggers the skin’s natural healing response, resulting in firmer, tighter and more rejuvenated skin.
How does Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling work?
Unlike the popular pen devices, RF Microneedling (RFMN) uses a specialised technological Radiofrequency machine which pulses measured Radiofrequency energy through the microneedles, which in essence, act as the conductor of this energy, leaving thermal microchannels in the deeper dermis, which make room for new collagen to establish. .
These gold plated microneedles are stamped into the skin (25-60 at a time) to give a deep fractional injury.
As the energy is only released when the needle is already within the skin, there is little epidermal (top layer of skin) ablation/ or vaporisation.

Why is this Important?

It means that patients are able to achieve the deeper dermal remodelling with collagen, without the associated downtime of their "face falling off." It can be tolerated in all seasons, unlike other ablative remodelling lasers.

It also means that this collagen stimulating method is suitable for darker skin types, as the risk of Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentaion (PIH) is significantly less. Luckily, at Medical Skin and Laser, our Doctors and nurses will mitigate your risks by making sure you are ready for your treatment.
Where can RF Microneedling be used?
The treatment is non invasive, comfortable and suitable for various body areas, including:
the face,
neck,
arms,
back,
breasts,
abdomen,
thighs,
any body areas afflicted with scarring (to be discussed with the Doctor)
What is the difference between normal microneedling and Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling?
Pen microneedling works at a very superficial level at the skin with repetitive stamping of a handful of microneedles as the technician "colours in" your area of treatment using a lubricant gel. There is no associated energy other than the physical micro penetration of these needles of up to 1-1.5mm. The epidermis tends to tear, as the pen of needles is dragged across, hence the micro bleeding which can often occur. Many treatments are required to improve skin quality.

RF Microneedling Combines Microneedling (to deeper depths if required) and Radiofrequency energy, generated through a larger specialised machine, with a larger handpiece, utilising a stamping mechanism.
Does Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling hurt?
In short- Yes.
As a treatment which gives results, it definately should be performed with pre-administaration of topical anaesthetic.

Our team of Doctors and nurses will assess your risks, and administer the highest compounded level of anaesthetic to your treatment area approxinately 30-75 minutes prior to treatment.

This tends to make the treatment comfortable for most.
How long does the effects of RF Microneedling last?
RF Microneedling lasts for the time that you take care of it. Since the base improvement is your own collagen, it will naturally degrade over time. Although no-one can stop the ageing process, there are some factors which may help or exacerbate your ageing process.

BEFORE and AFTER

1 month after only 1 MSL treatment. This lady was delighted with her upper eyelid lift, improved skin texture, skin tightening. This treatment is recommended in a course of 3, one month apart for optimal outcomes.
BEFORE and AFTER

2 weeks after only 1 x MSL RF Microneedling treatment. Notice the tightening of her under eye region, and lifting of her midface. This lady also had neurotoxin treatment to open up her outer eyelids.
