Australia and NZ have the highest rates of skin cancer in the world

Types of cancer

Skin cancers come in three main varieties:

  1. Basal Cell carcinoma (BCC)

  2. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)

  3. Malignant melanoma.

Malignant melanoma are particularly unpredictable. Although they have recently been linked to 10 or more visits to the sun bed and UV sun exposure, they also can occur in parts of the body which do not see the sun. Melanomas if not detected early can invade the blood stream, and appear in other areas of the body (metastases).

Some facts from Cancer Council Australia:

  • Skin cancers account for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers.

  • 66% of Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70.

  • 434,000+ people are treated for one or more non-melanoma skin cancers in Australia each year.

  • 2,046 people died from skin cancer in Australia in 2012, when the most recent statistics were taken.

We know that skin cancer can occur at any age, and in any any skin type and colour. Bob Marley died of Melanoma in his toenail!

We also know, the earlier your skin cancer is detected, the better the prognosis. New technologies and pharmacological advances allow for certain skin cancer to be treated with improved overall cosmetic outcome.

Skin Cancer Does not discriminate, but often it gives us early signs we can catch!

Don't wait until it's too late.
